It looks like I’ve broken through the next plateau…

For the last 6 weeks or so, my weight has been steadily fluctuating between 350 and 357 – But, per the books I’ve been reading on whole foods and eating right, it is important not to get discouraged if I am not loosing the weight that I want to…

After all, I am still down almost 40 pounds… I started at 387 and got down to 349 and then spent 6 weeks going up and down between 350 and 357 – that is pretty good weight loss in 3 months, I think.

Well, I started “feeling” different about a week or so ago, I feel bad that I cannot be more scientific… but, I just started to “feel” like I was going to begin loosing again, and sure enough about a week after those “feelings” began, I broke down through the 350 pound level!

Today, I am 346 – well, 346.7 – but, I am going to round down – deal with it ;) Now, I didn’t want to post this until I was sure I was headed in the right direction, and it has been about 5 days now that I have been fluctuating between 346 and 351 – So, I think I have broken through and am heading in the correct direction again.

More to follow on what I am doing to get there :)

Just going to be publishing my success and/or failure eating healthy foods. I have decided all this B.S. about different diets and strange gimmicks is just that… I mean really, what good is it to be skinny and develop cancer or heart disease via some of these protein only diets? A bazillion years on the planet cannot be wrong – let’s just eat fruits & veggies with meat being the side dish, instead of the other way around, and see what happens, eh?

Blogging from my Sprint Samsung Epic 4G

Not too much about weight this week – I am cross-eyed from starting my new business venture, trying to figure out how to work this Epic 4g phone; AND having a sprained wrist – I guess I learned I can’t wrestle with my 11 year old son cuz he can kick my butt now ;-)

Weight challenges did not go away this week but I made some progress. I stayed at the same weight but so far this week I’m tracking along pretty good.

As for me right now I’m going to continue to enjoy my new phone…I mean it’s a win win…with the price I paid for this new Android phone from Sprint I can’t afford to eat!… But swype is cooler than food :)

Down 6 Pounds In 2nd Week

Yellow Smiley

It feels good to drop those pounds

Alright, so this weigh in occurred on May 13, 2010 – I went from 358 to 351.5 – but for the sake of sanity, I rounded up.  Not bad right?  20 pounds in the first week and 6 in the 2nd!

I remember when I dropped the 20 pounds in the first week, I was a little panic’d… I thought for sure I would bounce back up, but I didn’t!  I nailed the lid in the coffin of those first 20 lbs by dropping another 6 in the 2nd week.

I have already received some questions about what I was doing to get rid of the weight, so I may do a 3rd update during the week to go over that if time permits.  But, to give you a quick idea – in a nutshell, I was doing EXTREMELY low calorie – about 800 – 1100 per day and NO carbs except what I took in from a very limited vegetable list.  I know that is not a lot of help, but I’m hoping that it will give you an idea.

Oh, by the way – I would not recommend this program to anybody unless they enjoy being miserable, exhausted and having severe headaches… For me, though, all of those things were/are much less an issue that the tons of extra weight I have been carrying around.

Have a great week!

McDonalds Fries

Addicted to McDonald's French Fries

It’s Tuesday, so you get to see what I’m currently going through and what is going on my my weight loss journey.
Let’s be honest here – McDonald’s French Fries are delicious!  But, not something we should eat more than once in a blue moon…

Now, last month was my maintenance month and when I ate normally that was part of the plan. I enjoyed occasional fast food, and for the whole month, I was never more than 2 pounds from where I started the month, up or down.

This past week did not go as planned. I gained 3 pounds and the reason is plain and simple.

For the first time since I started in May, I was genuinely not following my program.

I experience my first “uncontrolled” weight gain.  I am not saying that the weight gain was not within my control – if I had been following the program which I know how to follow, I would not have had this result.  But, for whatever reason, I was not able to control myself and my reactions to certain stressful situations which I experienced last week.

I found myself going out of my way to go to McDonald’s – I actually drove 8 miles out of my way, in the wrong direction to get fast food.  I ate at McDonald’s 3 times and at Taco Bell once.

My question to you – has this happened to you?   Did you bounce back?  Did you give up?  What did you do to overcome?

I am not giving up!  I will overcome this – I believe that life is made up of a bunch of starts & stops… new things and old things… along this journey and what I have seen over and over since I started in May is my weight is controllable. I have a plan for this week.

  1. Eat often – small meals with the profiles that I need to be successful
  2. Eat before I get hungry
  3. Get plenty of sleep
  4. Drink plenty of water
  5. Lay off of the exercise this week
  6. Remind myself daily for the reason I’m doing this
  7. Seek accountability from my family and friends

I look forward to hearing from you guys and hope to hear about your successes soon!

Should this be my Avatar???

To anybody reading the site – I am excited to have you here.  I hope that you will come back often and share your thoughts, successes and struggles.

Having said that, I really would be surprised to see any real traffic or readership so soon… I just started working on this site on Sunday August 22, 2010 – So, if anybody comes by the site over the next few weeks, I think it will probably be a small miracle *grins*

I have been working my butt off for the past couple of days, with a LOT of help from the same friend who suggested I turn JustAFatGuy.com into a blog/vlog and I think we are actually getting close to having the basic structure of this site up and running.

Some History & Schedules
I bought this domain a couple of years ago, but simply have not done anything with it, I haven’t announced it to any of my other friends, or family because it is so rough right now, but I am going to do my best to update it at least twice per week, on Tuesday and Thursdays.

For now, since we will be playing “catch up” for a little while, because I do want to post my beginning weigh-ins so you guys get a feel for the length and results in the same time-frame that I experienced them, I will be splitting the current updates and the old weigh-ins apart.

Tuesdays you can look forward to what is currently happening, what I am going through, and what my current thoughts are.

Thursdays have been my weigh in days since I started on my program back in May, so, I will be posting my old weigh-ins until we catch up… at least that is the plan right now – this is always subject to change :D

Please leave your comments – I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Weight Lost – 20 Pounds In My First Week Weigh-In

Not My Scale!

Not my scale!!! My weight scale is shown in the video below

Weight Update 05/13/2010
Per the previous article I started my current weight loss journey on 05/03/2010, and my starting weight was 378 pounds.  When I went into weigh in with my Ideal Protein Coach on 5/13/2010, I had dropped 20 pounds!  Talk about some early motivation – when I stood on the scale and it read 358 pounds I was astonished!  In the next couple of articles, I will write about why I chose to start my journey with the Ideal Protein program, why I’m no longer officially working with them.  I also plan on writing about exactly how I lost 20 pounds my first week later this weekend.

A Weight Loss Blogs First Steps
As you can see from the date, we are lagging a bit from the time of my actual weigh in and when I am posting the results.  The simple reason for this, is that I started this weight loss blog upon the recommendation of one of my friends (Jay), who thought it would be a great idea for me to publish my journey in the hopes that it could potentially inspire others, as well as keep me accountable and “on-track”

In keeping with the idea that this is really a process to keep myself motivated as much as anybody else, I’m going to post the weight loss stats from the past spread out, so there is as much continuity as possible… I have thought about changing the publishing dates of the articles, but I don’t think it’s necessary – There will just be a bit of a lag until I catch up.  Right now, I’m not sure if I will post the past weigh-ins multiple times during each week of the first few months, or not… What do you think?

It’s funny, this new site design is less than 4 days old and I’m asking an invisible audience what they think… uh, is there a psychiatrist in the house??? ;)

Time To Get Control and Lose Weight

I was tipping the scales at 378lbs back on May 3rd, 2010.  It was difficult to be there, in fact, there is a video of me a on one of our YouTube Channels where I weigh in at 369.4 lbs on December 31, 2009 – Our plan as a family was to join the ShayLoss contest, but that didn’t take.  Essentially, from New Years Eve until around my 41st birthday I gained about 10 lbs instead of dropping the weight.

I was becoming more and more frustrated and a bit depressed  because I didn’t know what to do and I could see 400 lbs right around the corner!

Have you ever found yourself in this situation, or know somebody who you care about that has?  I am interested to hear about your thoughts and if you were able to turn it around.
